WYCAP has no paid staff; everything gets done because people donate their time, with more experienced volunteers leading each area and helping newcomers get oriented. You don't need policy experience, writing chops, or a fundraising background to get started; you simply need to be willing to pitch in where it's needed. 1.
Policy & Advocacy
Monitor Wyoming legislation, regulatory proceedings, and agency activity, and turns that intelligence into direct advocacy.
EXAMPLE PROJECTS
Bill Tracker — Track bills with animal welfare impact during the legislative session; keep updated with status & WYCAP's position
Hearing & Meeting Summaries — Attend & summarize Wyoming Game & Fish Commission, Animal Damage Management Board, and relevant interim committee meetings
Candidate Questionnaire — Develop & distribute animal welfare questions each election cycle & publish responses
Voting Tracker — Track legislators' annual voting record for public & media use
Prosecutor Outreach — Send emails/letters and make calls urging prosecutors to pursue animal cruelty cases seriously
Commission & Legislature Outreach — Send emails/letters & make calls to elected officials and appointees; make public comment.

Research & Analysis
Develop the evidence base behind WYCAP's policy positions, campaigns, and communications.

Issue Briefs — Write concise analyses of priority topics (e.g., link between domestic violence & animal cruelty, ordinance landscape, how to identify animal cruelty, puppy mills, animal cruelty convictions, etc.)
Statutory Benchmarking — Compare Wyoming statutes to neighboring states & Animal Legal Defense Fund model provisions
Animal Legal Defense Fund Gap Tracker — Check Wyoming's progress against ALDF's identified gaps annually.

Community Engagement
Build WYCAP's public presence and cultivate relationships with allied organizations and stakeholders.

Resource & Stakeholder Map — Maintain WYCAP's public map of allied orgs, rescues, shelters, and community resources
Annual Tabling — Help staff and plan 5–10 community events per year, locally and/or regionally
Trainings & Workshops — Deliver trainings for professionals, service organizations, and/or the community on priority topics
